Harpreet Chana
Harpreet Chana is a Registered Provisional Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) and a member of the Psychologist’s Association of Alberta (PAA).
While completing her Masters in Counselling, Harpreet worked at a second stage women’s shelter supporting women and children fleeing domestic violence. Harpreet also volunteered as a counsellor supporting survivors of human trafficking. Thus, Harpreet understands that standing alongside those in the margins of society is imperative for society to heal.
Harpreet believes that therapy is a space humans come to when the current tools in their toolbox aren’t working on the current concerns/problems they are facing. Hence, Harpreet sees therapy as your journey that she has the privilege to embark on alongside you, and as a team, face whatever terrain there is. Which means that therapy will have its ebbs and flows; however, meeting with compassion, safety, and humour can make the journey a little less intimidating.
Harpreet has experience working with children, teens, adults, and couples on a variety of areas. Some areas include sex therapy, racial/ethnic identity issues, ADHD, domestic violence, relationship issues, school/bullying, porn use, and life transitions, to list a few.
Harpreet uses a client-centred, integrated, culturally-sensitive approach, utilizing a variety of modalities including Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Gottman Method for Couples, and Polyvagal Theory to list a few.
In her spare time, Harpreet has rekindled her love for sewing clothes (she wanted to be a fashion designer as a kid!), enjoys going on walks with her dog Angelo, building lego, and spending quality time with her loved ones.
