Does my insurance cover therapy?
Most extended health plans cover some therapy each year, but the amount and the types of clinician covered vary. Before your first session, we suggest asking your insurer:
How much is my annual coverage for psychological services or counselling?
Is there a per-session maximum or a percentage I pay?
Which designations are covered: registered psychologists, provisional psychologists, Canadian Certified Counsellors or social workers?
Do I need a doctor's referral? (We don't require one.)
Not sure what to ask? Call us at 780-700-2577 and we'll help you check.
Reduced-fee options
Cost shouldn't stop you from getting support. We offer sliding-scale fees for people who qualify, and our Community Outreach Program helps make care more accessible. Ask about reduced-fee options when you book your free consultation.
Cancellation policy
Please give us at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and missed appointments are charged the full session fee, and insurers do not cover them.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?
No. You can book directly with us. Some insurance plans ask for a doctor's referral, so check your plan.
Is therapy tax deductible?
Fees paid to a registered psychologist can usually be claimed as a medical expense on your Canadian income tax return. Keep your receipts and check with your tax preparer.
How do I pay?
If we direct bill your insurer, you only pay any amount your plan doesn't cover. Otherwise you pay at each session and we email you a receipt.
Is online therapy covered too?
Most plans cover online sessions the same way as in-person sessions. Check with your insurer to be sure.
