Shannon Wilson
Shannon holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with Yorkville University, and is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. She also holds an undergraduate degree in Human Ecology with a specialization in Family Studies from the University of Alberta. With a human ecological background, Shannon works with clients following a holistic approach by honouring all their relationships, and all levels of their environment. This lends well to her role as a clinical counsellor.
Shannon has specialized in perinatal mental health for the last four years through private practice. This focus has included supporting mothers through their fertility journey, birth trauma, pregnancy and infant loss, and all things related to the prenatal and postpartum stages of motherhood. She is a wife and a mother of two daughters, and a son. Her passion to continue working with mothers in a therapeutic setting has been guided by the loss of her first daughter, and the unexpected journey of motherhood. As such, Shannon specializes in reproductive grief counselling and birth trauma as a Grief Support Certified Counsellor, with additional training in ACT Grief and Loss.
Shannon has worked for over 10 years in the mental health field, and prior to her experience as a perinatal counsellor, she worked with a non-profit organization supporting teen parents and their families. Her professional work experience also includes supporting young adults in a community setting from a strengths-based perspective. Shannon utilizes a Nervous System Informed approach, while integrating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Grief Counselling, and a variety of trauma therapies, depending on the needs of each client.
Shannon offers a therapeutic space where clients are met with compassion, understanding, warmth, and empathy; this creates an environment with greater opportunities for client healing. Her training and experience also allow her to provide effective client support for adolescents age 14 and up, as well as adults and families.
