Karen believes that everyone has the strength and tools to persevere through difficult times. Sometimes we may just need the guidance or listening ear to bring them out. She believes that humans are extremely resilient as they overcome a spectrum of difficult situations. By using a client-centered approach, Karen believes that the client is the expert of their lives. She values the importance of equality when it comes to the therapeutic alliance and healing process. She is an empathetic listener who strives on ensuring her clients feel heard, supported, and validated.

Karen has experience working with children, teens, and adults. Aside from her counselling experience, Karen is the “wellness coach” at Boys and Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters. She has been accessing mental health themes that arose due to the pandemic. She also presents and does mental health activities with children to build awareness.

Karen uses a variety of modalities to fit her client’s needs. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She also enjoys using art to allow for expression.  Furthermore, Karen strives on cultural competence with clients. She understands this consideration can be key to a client’s progress in therapy.

In her spare time, Karen loves to travel, watch documentaries, spend time with her family and friends and stay active by playing soccer and working out.
